Green River Basin Federal Credit Union is a community chartered credit union offering financial services and credit union membership to individuals, families, and family members living, working, worshiping, or attending school in Sweetwater, Uinta, Sublette, or Lincoln Counties in Southwest Wyoming.
We are a credit union where our first concern is our members; therefore, we do what we do for our members. Unlike a bank whose first concern is a high return on investment for the bank’s investors, charging higher interest rates and creating innovative fee structures to obtain more income from the bank’s customers, Green River Basin Federal Credit Union is a COOP owned by its members. As an owner, the member has the opportunity to attend the annual meeting to help select the board members who will represent the membership in establishing policy and direction for the credit union.
We are proud of our Union Pacific Railroad heritage. In the early years of our country, the railroad helped expand the nation to help bring products and services to the west. Keeping in line of our heritage, we are happy that we have been able to expand our community to include all of Sweetwater, Unita, Sublette, and Lincoln Counties in Wyoming to help bring credit union benefits to Southwest Wyoming.
On March 21, 1967 six Union Pacific railroaders borrowed $5,000.00 from Green River First National Bank and Green River U.P. Employees Federal Credit Union was born.
There wasn’t an actual office until October, 1969 when Babe Stone was appointed manager. The credit union office was located in the enclosed front porch of the Stone home for 20 years.
We have come a long way from only one employee on the front porch to 8 employees and the purchase in 1997 of the building that was owned by the bank that loaned us the money to start the credit union.
On January 31, 2002 NCUA approved the merger of Mansface Federal Credit Union with Green River U.P. Employees Federal Credit Union and on June 24, 2004 we became Green River Basin Federal Credit Union.
On December 1, 2005 NCUA approved a community charter for the credit union allowing membership to anyone living, working, worshiping, or attending school in Sweetwater, Uinta, Lincoln, and Sublette Counties of Southwest Wyoming.
In October 2007 we expanded by opening an office in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
Today, Green River Basin Federal Credit Union is as strong and durable as the railroad that started it.
